Moving forward
I finally feel like I am moving forward toward my Ph.D. This week I took my preliminary exams (kind of like final exams for a Ph.D.). I still have an oral defense in a couple of weeks, but when that is done, I'll be a Ph.D. CANDIDATE! Yes, moving from "student" to "candidate" may sound like a pointless distinction. But it means a lot to me. I still plan to finish up my dissertation before May and get a real job ASAP. Wish us luck!

YAY NITA! I've been meaning to call you and see how the prelims went...I bet it feels nice to get them out of the way-- and in just a couple weeks you will be able to knock some more weight off after your oral defense! Good Luck with everything-- we are rooting for your TX job ;)
